Mini Experience Magazine (Australia)

Sadly it seems Australias only dedicated Mini magazine 'The Mini Experience' which followed on from a previous one called "Mini Magic" will publish its last 29th issue, as a new mag format is to be launched known as "The BMC Experience". The change is to appeal to a wider potential readership and allow a broader representation of BMC cars featuring info and cars relative until the end of Ausi Moke production. Therefore it also looks as if the MINI coverage will be dropped from the mag but I guess the increasing new MINI enthusiast following in Australia may mean a dedicated mag like 'Modern MINI' in the UK will eventually become viable.

The Mini Experience was launched in December 2004. Dedicated to all things Mini, old and new, the magazine was available quarterly and had established itself as the country's primary information resource for all Mini enthusiasts.

I don't expect to see big changes in the magazine. Watto will continue with his admirable mission of documenting the history of BMC and their cars in Australia. and there will be less coverage of the largely irrelevant MINI. The preview of the next issue shows that it looks the same and that about 2/3rds of it will be Mini content anyway. I'm looking forward to it.

I see that one of the Aussie ones is for sale. Even if I could afford it, my wife would kill me.

If all my Mini magazines arrived in the mail box the same day (Mini Experience, Mini Magazine, Cooper World, MC2, Mini World, etc.) I would be seen walking back to the house with all but one tucked under my arm and Mini Experience ripped out of its package and being read. I don't have the latest, "crossover" issue, but I'm sure Watto will maintain a high standard.

Cooper World, Mini Magazine, Miniworld and Modern MINI arrive in my mailbox every month, Cooper World from the MCR is now of exceptional quality for a club based magazine but from the few issues I have seen Mini Experience (from Aus) and MC2 (from the US) both seem to feature some very interesting and well researched in-depth articles.

Hmmmm, I can't help but wonder if this will work out for the better or worse in the end. I wish Watto well, he deserves it but my initial feeling is that some, maybe quite a lot of the new content will not appeal to me much and I don't know if I'll be prepared to pay much for it. I'll wait before I pass judgement but I sure have enjoyed the old format and content.

Regards
Al
