The Department for Transport (DfT) has issued a press release stating that, amongst a number of measures to cur 'Red-Tape' for motorists the requirement to annually make a Satutory Off Road Notification (SORN) declaration for vehicles that are off the road and not in use is to be scrapped.

Once a SORN declaration is made on a vehicle it will now remain in effect until the vehicle is returned to use.

About time to - it seems a complete waste of time, effort and money to continue to SORN a vehicle. I thought they might start charging an admin fee for SORNing but for once it seems commonsense has prevailed.

Not before time!

The requirement to annually declare SORN was a superb example of our lords & masters pi55ing money down the drain in the name of irritating the rest of us.

Good riddance is what I say.

Yes the idea is to cut down on paperwork and sorn stays in force until the car is back on the road.My DVLA friend tells me it is still at the consultation stage
