Drum brakes?

I noticed it has front drum brakes and a servo. Not being picky but ... ...... .

Back in the day it was common to replace Cooper discs with twin leading drum brakes and a servo from the local breakers yard as an improvement. The ultimate upgrade was obviously Cooper S discs but they were expensive new and secondhand in the 1970's, when many of us were running an old Mini like this on a shoestring budget.

Loved seeing the sled idea to extract it. Seen enough cars dragged with brute force and simply torn apart in the process.

Would like to see the resto progress, maybe if anyone knows the owner, they could invite them along here.

Just to fill you in on the car, Dave’s father was its 2nd owner and repainted it a similar shade of green to Macca’s Mini back in the 60s. Originally Old English White with a black top (still has a black top under the green vegetation!) it still also has all of its Tartan Red / Grey and Gold brocade interior in fantastic condition considering the local mice have developed a real appetite for the foam underneath. The original engine is still in situ with its number on together with matching chassis and FE numbers which all point to a Mini Cooper manufactured at Longbridge in January 1965. The swivel type sunvisors are there (only found on Mk1 Minis from late 64 to late 65) as are all the usual original Cooper features you’d expect and a mileage of 55k miles on the 100mph speedo that I suspect is an accurate reading looking at the general condition of the bodyshell. The tiny Cooper discs (the smallest discs ever put on a production car at the time) were swapped out for a set of drums many years ago and understandably a cheaper replacement for the worn out originals. These cars had to be kept on the road any which way and the later bootlid is no doubt as a result of a nudge in the back from another driver with even worse brakes.
Under the back seat (always a good indicator) is surprisingly clean, all still in original factory paint with none of the holes you’d expect from a higher mileage survivor, obligatory Green Shield stamps in abundance and the floors are also surprisingly solid and straight and though yes it’s not going to be a job for the feint hearted to restore this little Cooper back to its former glory it’s a job that Dave is determined to do as a tribute to his dad and we look forward to watching it’s progress.
(PS. no pressure Dave…but you might just see this Cooper at Blyton Park on May 4th!)"

Proper car that one, yes it’s seen a few parts changed but not many! Just spotted the boot board on the roof in the video so have messaged Dave the owner to make sure he’s not skipped it! So many trolls on Facebook with the negative comments (not too many on my page though, they get banned! ) , freedom of speech my arse I’ve advised Jonny Smith to boot em off!
