If it helps it's the wrong carb for the manifold. Should be an HIF carb and I presume the manifold has 4 locating holes for the carb stub
The HIF doesn't need the return spring bracket.

My HLE MKI Metro has a HIF38 as olddave has mentioned.
The 850 Metro though, did still retain the HS4, though I don't think there was many of these sold in the UK.

The threaded stud on the bracket should be pointing upwards, the air filter bolts to it. Originally your car would have been fitted with a HIF38 carb that used 4 studs to attach it to the manifold.

Refer back to your original post when you were having issues starting the car, there is a photo showing the carburetor and bracket in situ, stud at the top.

Stud at the top as mentioned above and the throttle cable guide on the LH side of the engine bay

For reference in the earlier thread on this Metro we found the following info from the engine number:-
12H907AA 136302
12H = 1275cc Transverse
907 = Yd + Bf + Hm + Sk
Yd = Mechanical fuel pump,
Bf = Alternator with negative earth,
Hm = LC8 design variant (probably means the 'Low Compression' A+ derivative of the A-series engine - as in '&' denotes a Mini engine)
Sk = Standard ratio gearbox with 3.44 Final Drive, inboard CV joints and rod change
AA = Carburetter crankcase ventilation and intake air temperature control
The 'Hm' appears to indicate a 'Low compression' A+ derivative of the A-series engine and 'denotes a Mini engine' ?
Which might confirm that this 1982 Metro left the factory with a pre-verto clutch and HS4 SU carburettor Mini spec engine? Although the 1275GT Mini ended production in 1980 and was not low compression....
ie. the Mini spec engine is probably not due to a later engine swap?

Thanks Martin.
There was a Low Compression 1275 Metro, these were 8.0:1 Compression ratio and yes, all early Metros had pre-Verto Clutches and were Hydraulic (like mine). They also had Inertia Starter Motors.
All Metros however ere fitted with either a HIF Carb, except for the 850 models.
Here's a page from the factory Workshop Manual covering that engine;-

The throttle cable goes to the linkage nearest the manifold, the one nearest the bulkhead is the choke linkage. Follow your workshop manual to set the “fast idle” position on the choke linkage.

I cant even remember which one was throttle and which one was choke

you say use the manual to set the fast ideal position. What dose that mean? how far do i pull the cable though, or should it be where the kink is in the cable (presuming I have the right cable in that is)

Is there someone near to Crackpot who could possibly help him out for an hour? I feel if he is having problems with the cables he will find
setting the fast idle nigh on impossible.Just a suggestion.
