Purolator Spin On Oil Filter Head - SORTED

Post by sugarhiccup »

Hi all,

Looking for a ‘Purolator’ type spin on oil filter head that has the full-sized mating face to the block. I believe these may have been used on Sprite/Midgets at some stage?

Picture for reference:

Postage to Australia or U.K. can be achieved.

Many thanks! :)

You do realize there are two versions. One places the filter further away from the block and transmission. I haven't jigged up one with sub frame in years. I believe there was a sub frame clearance issue with the longer one. I do like the short ones as they have the larger mounting area and threaded steel insert. Steve (CTR)

Hi Steve,

Thank you, yes I had read this in another forum thread at some stage. I appreciate you bringing this to my attention again.

I would be looking for the compatible, shorter filter head option that doesn’t have clearance issues.

Cheers :)

The part number on the one I have is CAM6684, which hopefully should make it easier to find one

Hi Toby,

Thanks for the heads up! I appreciate your message.

They must indeed be very hard to come by, as a google search against this part number yields nothing for me!

Still, I can hold out hope one might turn up…

Cheers mate! :)

The last one I saw for sale was on Facebook marketplace, that sold fairly quick. Have seen them on Ebay too. Good luck with the search!

Managed to finally track one down in the U.S.! It became apparent that they’re definitely not that easy to find…

Thanks for everybody’s help along the way! :D

One of the best modifications that you can do to your car. No more oil running down your arm and a filter change done in 2 minutes. Paint it and the cannister mid bronze and no one will even notice! Pete the Pom

Hi mate!

Toby shared this part number above: CAM6684, but I wasn’t able to find any information unfortunately.

I haven’t yet received it in the post, but when I do I will inspect it and see if I can determine exactly what numbers are cast into it also if this helps.

The only information I’ve been able to gather from online searches is that it appears to have been installed on some 1275cc AH Sprite and MG Midget engines.

Many thanks and will be in touch again soon to report back once it arrives.

Thomas :)

Hi all,

For those still wanting to find any further information on this particular oil filter head, I have received it today and will attach a picture below of the numbering cast into the part:

Image

It’s not 100% clear, but it appears to show “MIC 21761” potentially? Unfortunately an internet search doesn’t seem to yield any results with this or the ones aforementioned above.

Hopefully soon somebody will shed some light! If so, perhaps we can start a new thread, or I am happy if this one needs to be moved into the most relevant section, perhaps ‘Technical Talk’?

Cheers all :)

Better still sugar hiccup, will you measure the distance from the outer edge of the mounting flange to centre of the filter spin-on thread.

There are a couple of distances and only one is suitable for a mini. It'll help others in the future to ensure that they've got the right one if they do see one at an autojumble.

I got caught short the first time! But a good modification for any pre 71 mini owner
