Mig welding gas

Hello chaps
I’m after some mig welding gas, preferably an out right purchase not yearly contract.
I’ve always used BOC argoshield light.
Any recommendations for a similar product?
Dave.

I've used this place before, bought a bottle years ago and still haven't emptied it yet but I'm not exactly a prolific welder.

I uses 'SGS Gases'. There's no annual bottle rental. You buy the gas
and pay a bottle-deposit.
When you go for a refill they swap the bottle and you just pay for the gas. Plus you also pay the difference (if any) between the current deposit
minus the deposit you already paid. Which is fair - it means your deposit is always topped-up to be the same as the current deposit that any new customer would pay.
If you ever give up welding and take the bottle back, deposit is refunded.

I also use Hobbyweld5 for the MIG. It is convenient and I prefer to pay as and when I need some rather than spend a large sum on rental when I might not use any gas for months....
It seems fairly readily available now, which clearly is important. There were some supply issues at one time.

Try the local motor factors....They may have contacts with Hobby or SGS, and their discounts for volume mean they can undersell straight agents...My local factor supplys Hoby and does a better price to me than published..

Oxygen in a mix... hadn't heard of that. At first glance you'd think that would make the weld pool hotter and runnier so overall resulting in more difficulty controlling penetration and so more blow-through on thin body panels by cack-handed welders like myself. But according to one widely-referenced doco the opposite is true:
"On thin gauge base metals, the oxygen constituent promotes arc stability at very low current levels (30 to 60 amps) permitting the arc to be kept short and controllable. This helps minimize excessive melt-through and distortion by lowering the total heat input to the base material."
I'll have to try it.
The quote comes from here:
https://www-eng.lbl.gov/~shuman/NEXT/MA ... Manual.pdf (Page 37). More up-to-date info is surely available... it's from 1998 and Praxair no longer exists.

Another vote for Hobbyweld5 here. I get it from my local Wellington Welding Supplies - they're great people!
