On the Mk1/2 estate, the interior trim around the rear doorframe is fastened with visible screws. They don't appear in the catalog. Anyone enlighten me what size they were originally, please? And did they use cup washers?

I don’t know the exact screw size off the top of my head, but for my Mk2 estate, the screws were around 5mm or 6mm. I’ve seen some with cup washers, but it seems like it might depend on the year or specific trim. If you're restoring, it could be worth checking out a similar car in person or asking around in a forum where people are doing the same kind of work.

The screws are RTZ 602.

I'm struggling to translate that part number, but I reckon it would be :-
raised head,
countersunk,
phillips,
chrome plated,

No 6 size (3.5 mm dia) and about 1/2" long.

I've tried #6 pan stainless s/t in some of the holes but they don't easily fit. And they look a bit garish. #4 would seem very small though, so maybe the poor fit is just the rust - which the car had a l-o-t of. Guess 48 years of "retirement" in a barn, hosting rats' nests, didn't agree with it.

I've found a reference to RTZ 4xx (here: https://mail.mgaguru.com/mgtech/books/p ... System.pdf) but not RTZ 6xx.

I've ordered some raised-csk #6 1/2" zinc self-tappers. Near enough. And I imagine BMC weren't too fussy about raiding alternative parts-bins when they ran out of the 'correct' part, either.

Thinking about it .......... the "Z" probably mean zinc plated, so a duller finish than S/S or chrome.
