Too bad Mark isn't available...he could shed some light on whether this really is a Speedwell car.

Speedwell & Swiftune. Ummmmmm! A personal observation as I don't understand why one would add a Speedwell badge to a Mini with a recent Swiftune engine.

There was a lot of scanned paperwork included in the add, one of which was a letter from Speedwell in 1972 confirming the camshaft the engine was built with. There was definitely some involvement with Speedwell from near new. Some of the handwritten notes & emails say it was converted by Speedwell into a racer from new, but as they’ve had the personal names blanked it’s a bit harder to trace

Being a racer it’s obviously had a few tough lives and weren’t always kept 100% original from the first build. From the paperwork it was updated over the years with wider flares and different specs, then at some point they decided to restore it to the original build

If it was a genuine “Speedwell built racer”, that currently has a Swiftune engine then keeping the Speedwell badge makes sense to me

Looking at the paperwork it seems like there were a few speedwell parts added early on. Not sure that makes it a speedwell car

No smoking gun there really but the letter from Speedwell does seem to suggest it had one of their engines. All that paperwork and not one decent old photo of the car in period other than the black and white photocopy and nothing in between. Yes blanking some of the ownership details doesn’t help.

I’m surprised there is no SCCA log book. They really put a lot of value on them over there to back up a cars history.

It looks to me like it was an original Speedwell supplied car back in 1967, but I don't imagine there is much of it left now.

I noticed an email from me in the bunch of paperwork listed, but I have absolutely no recollection of this car or it's former owner at all. After all, it was back in 2000, and I have slept since then.

As Mark says....not much of the original car left. It looks like it has been re-shelled....B post is welded to the cant rail (MK2)....MK2 style seatbelt points on the tunnel and a MK3 rear bulkhead.

Seatbelt mounts look the same as my 1967 Mk1, what’s the difference?
