E-bayer not where they say they are - a kind of rant!!

Is it me but a few nice old mini things have been advertised on ebay as if they were local to me, yet when I enquire they say they will only post and I can't go take a look, in this case for someone else. Turns out that they are over 100 miles away!!!
Makes me wonder why, and deters me from buying.
Anyone else had this???

Not everyone wants people knowing where they live if they’re selling desirable car parts.

It’s also common for scammers to advertise out of their area and specify no collection
Or it could be someone using their account to sell on behalf of someone else, someone who isn’t at their storage unit often, someone who doesn’t want visitors

Maybe its ebay wary that you will go in & do a direct cash deal .

This probably doesn't happen for Mini parts, but here in Australia its most commonly because the seller isn't actually in Australia, they are in China and use some kind of mail forwarding system where they send it to an Australian location which hands it to the postman to deliver to me. Its dishonest but Ebay facilitates it.
I hardly buy anything on ebay anymore. I used to get heaps of lovely early mini parts from the UK, but there is much less to choose from now, and freight from the UK has become extortionate.

This is very common in the UK as well, we used to have a large warehouse near us (before they moved to a bigger one) that was occupied by an Inventory Fulfilment company……they keep stock from lots of over seas companies and deliver the last mile….

Unfortunately it doesn’t help that eBay have now removed the cash on collection option

I doubt it, as eBay have removed all fees now, it makes no difference to eBay if the seller posts it or offers collection.
It seems they have removed collection only, but sellers still offer it

I absolutely love eBay, been on there 22 years, never had an issue and just sold a load of stuff, no fees now whatsoever and I got great feedback. Win win for me!

I purchase most things on eBay as the purchasing method is fast, efficient and safe, and it's quick to do some comparisons - it saves me miles and time of driving around on our slow and congested roads.
But it's now unusual to find those original gems that were previously stored away in sheds and garages that used to be quite exciting to discover. The noticeable thing though is just how much stuff originates from China and try to find it elsewhere....

I use E-bay too. But still appreciate the forumers here that give us first choice. Just as Ronaldino has on a couple of occasions

I also offered to meet in neutral place in Swansea btw. It has just occurred to me that it might be a forum member on here who is absolutely legit, so if so, please do get in touch.
