Switch panel - which way up

The Mk1 central switch panel has indents which angle the choke and heater cables. Should it be fitted so that the indent cancels-out the slight upward tilt of the shelf-front (so that the knobs stick out into the cab horizontally). Or should the panel be the other way up, so the knobs stick out facing slightly more upwards than they would even on an un-indented panel? Logically I can see either might be intended. But which is original?

Both wiper and light switch in off position should be pointing approx 45 degrees upwards. Light switch is 2 position so in horizontal position side lights will be on.

Inverting the switch-panel won't change the angle of the switches (so long as they're flipped over in the panel
). But (on most panels except the earliest) it
will change the angle of the choke/heater cables. But there's no indication on the panel which way up it should be fitted.
In M-Machine's catalog I've just spotted that the panels appear to be shown with the dimples angled downwards. I also see that the keyswitch hole (the only other asymmetry on the part) is drawn with its flat to the right. So that is probably the definitive answer. Unless M-Machine didn't know either and just flipped a coin.

All the original cars I've looked at have the depression in the plate at the bottom, this was done so the heater and choke cables wouldn't foul on the heater.

I think this is correct, it also helps keep the choke and heater cable closer to horizontal
