Oil pressure

Post by rnp68 »

Any tips on how to get oil pressure on an engine that has sat for 20 years. None on cranking for 5 minutes. Sorry should have posted in technical.

Oil pressure relief valve stuck?
May be a silly question but the pipe or gauge isn’t at fault?

Guage and pipe removed, no oil out of block. Will pull relief valve out tomorrow and clean.

Remove the oil transfer pipe and back fill the pump through the oil transfer pipe hole.

Just to clarify, it’s sat for 20 years. Was it a runner or a rebuild that wasn’t used?

If still struggling, get a pal to back fill it through the oil transfer hole whilst you’re pushing it backwards in gear (with the plugs out of course). Worked for me on motor sat a long time. :)

I agree with an opinion already expressed which has worked for me and something I always do after an engine rebuild, during assembly prime the oil pump by dispensing oil through the block connection for the pipe to the filter. Should then quickly draw up oil from the sump.
