I am interested in pushing a little more HP from my 1380. Spec as follows:

Stage 4 head
285 cam
Twin H4s/JS pancake filters
Maniflow LCB + Stainless RC40
Powermax 73.5 pistons
Lightened standard S flywheel/orange clutch
Duplex gears
Electronic Metro Distributer
1.5 Purple roller rockers (note colour!)
4 sync C/R 1128 gearbox.

What would be the best distributor for this set up? It runs an A+ metro electronic type which is fine but wondered if the Aldon or 123 type are worth a look. What are the benefits? Cheers. Mark

http://www.autosportlabs.com/megajolte-p-41.html - for the ignition.

Chuck the cam and get a kent's 286 works far better with the rockers.

Chuck the SU's and get a 45, did you buy a complete lump or build it yourself. If you got a full engine, I'd at least strip the head off and measure and calculate what your actual compression ratio is, you maybe surprised at how low it is.

I have a 123 ignition tune distributor and am totally satisfied.
But I do not know, if it is available for A+ engines.

i have always had aldon dizzy,

aldon yellow for fast road
aldon red, for race,

123 dizzy are good, not cheap, loads of setting to get the most out your car,

see what other people say, and depend on your budget, aldons maybe around £200-£250 with there ignitor
123 are around £400 i think or maybe a bit less

Always ran the Aldon Yellow and was a little skeptical as to the difference on my engine. I have been totally blown away by the megajolt, best 71.50 I've ever spent. That was in kit form and of course at a much more favourable exchange rate. 20 quid for the edis, coil pack and leads, honestly if your not restricted to staying with a dizzy (race class/Concours), you won't look back.

Cheers Smiffy. Bit disturbed when you suggested I 'chuck' my beloved SU H4's. Webers very impressive but can't go cutting holes in bulkheads etc!
I do like the idea of this Megajolt business. Would you give me a stepwise guide to what I need to buy, how to fit it and what to do once I have fitted it. A mate of mine does all the laptop programming but could do with some guidance on the basics first. What is the big change - drivability or perfromance or both. Cheers. Mark

Right I'd get the Megajolt from Autosportlabs over in the states, I ordered mine Sunday night about midnight and it arrived thursday morning.
Wouldn't it be nice to get that sort of service here in the uk lol

So you need the Megajolt ECU, unfortunately only available pre-built now. Also get the Tuning cable and the rev limiter fitted, you could save about a tenna fitting the rev counter yourself but is it worth the hassle. The reason they don't do the DIY kit anymore is the components in the latest incarnation, are a bit more difficult to solder up though........ There tuning cable & USB to serial adapter, works and are only about 4 quid.

Now go to your local scrappy, your looking for mid to late nineties fords. Escorts, orions, fiestas, mondeo's etc.
You need the EDIS4 unit, the Coil pack and VR sensor and as much of the associated wiring as you can get, don't cut the VR sensor wire unplug it and take the lot. Cost me 20 quid, built I've since got spares from a different yard for a tenna. You'll also need a set of restive plugs to match the system, I just got 1990 ford fiesta plugs.

Now you need to decide where it's all gonna go, my edis unit and coil are mounted on on pieces of 10mm thick alloy to act as heat sinks. Though I believe only the EDIS unit needs to be. Now lay in the wiring and decide where it's gonna connect up to your harness, my VR sensor wire had to be run all the way around the engine bay as it's so long and I didn't want to cut this wire.
Hers the wiring diagram I got of the autosports forum and modified to suit my installation:
SmiffysMEGAJOLT.jpg
Got mine all fitted installed the plugs after reseting the gaps to the recommended 1mm and left one out, to see if I had a spark. Span the engine over and it burst into life, funny thing was I wasn't expecting this. So panicked and turned it off straight away lol. Anyway panic over I couldn't believe the size of the spark, it's like blackpool illuminations now, never seen anything like it on a mini before and that includes with my Aldon dizzy, ignitor and lucas sports coil.

Now go over to the map library on the autosports site and find a suitable map, there will be something to match. All the Aldon Yellow maps and the 123 dizzy maps are there, to use as starting points for your own. I started with the 'MiniSPi2-MD286.mjlj' and have slowly be altering it.

Biggest improvement has to be starting, just touch the key and it's running. Also the drivability has made me wish I still had the AGSP cam in there, I down graded to a 649.
