Civil Service grille badge

Found this in an old box of bits that has been here for longer than I can remember.
It is quite heavy...well made...a stamp on the back....can't quite make out the first word...second word is London.
Anyone know the history of this badge....was it a club....just a civil service badge....interested in hearing.

The CSMA was set up in 1923 as a motoring club, initially for those interested in motorbike trials, for members of all branches of the Civil Service in the UK. It also organised various motoring competitions. The club is still around today but is now under the common banner of Boundless which is a general club for all sorts of activities for those in the Civil Service. The Cotswold Motoring Museum in Bourton-on-the Water is owned by the CSMA which details the club's history.
There are lots of CSMA badges for sale on that well known auction site beginning with E and ending with BAY. Yours looks like it could be from the 1930's.

Thanks for the explanation.....thought it might be some way associated with motorbikes as it has a single wheel. Plus, my old man was a big bike guy...loved BSA's etc. Thinking this was his old badge.

Your dad would have enjoyed Dusseldorf last week Dermott. Obviously a bit of a Brit Bike show somewhere nearby. PLENTY of BSA's including about 3 ex Brit Army BSA M20's and old US Army 40's bikes.

For the info of any German late BL/Rover minis, On the road from Dusseldorf to Benrath I noticed a small workshop that specialised in auto electronics. I walked back and mentioned the BL/Rover minis and he said that they have sorted a couple out in the past - but usually caused by piss-poor earthing and corroded plug-in sockets. Worth knowing for me as I take mine there once or twice a year

The CSMA of course regularly entered a club team on the RAC Rally, on occasion with an all Mini team. I was part of it on many occasions (5 times as a competitor, 4 times as service crew).
You can make out the CSMA badge on the grille of this 998 Cooper on the 68 Gulf London International (an event they entered as replacement for the cancelled 67 RAC).

Not forgetting Keith Guppy and Alan Goodrick who were part of the CSMA team on the 1970 RAC after rebuilding their Cortina into a replacement road shell weeks before the event. I think lack of suspension strengthening resulted in their retirement from the event.
