It’s based on an Italian Innocenti shell and it was called the “Mini Mare”

It does look the same , but the registration plate number is different, does this matter in Italy ?

The side mirror is also in a different position, so I’d think they aren’t the same car (wheel trims and the side ropes are also different)

Yes it does. The reg. plate stays with the car, just like in Blighty.
