I am told..........."nothing nasty happened to the Mini, in fact it was quite serviceable when the filming was completed.
This wasn't your usual £1500 challenge, each presenter was given £7k to buy a car - Richard bought a late W-Reg Cooper Sportspack.
It was modified during filming with steel wheels and chunkier tyres being fitted to cope with gravelly roads.
Rest assured though, it wasn't completely trashed."

i dont confess to knowing much about minis after 1975 but the so called BRITISH rover cooper was built whilst owned by the jerrys wasnt it ???

Always makes me laugh when I see 1998 and 1999 Mini's with "100% british, no german sh*t" stickers in the windows.

I think I must be one of the few people who can't stand the pantomime set up they inisist on using in Top Gear. It is nauseating! It must work as they seem to be the biggest show in the world or something but it really is embarrassing to see them churn the same format out every week only to be repeated endlessly by Dave and Dave Ja Vu. Clarkson's shock and awe statements are so predictable and dull. (Didn't he pack in presenting Top Gear years ago as even he had had enouht of churning out hackneyed phrases??) Dull Dull Dull. Yours despairingly. Essex. Bring back 'Points of View'!

If you really want to upset some later Mini owners just point out that 'BMW' is printed on the back cover of their handbook!

That was the most dullest Top Gear adventure ever.

Oh well, it looks like the Hamster might have brought the Mini home as he seemed to enjoy driving it.

I thought the whole progam was very dissapointing. Poor on the cars, poor on the country & poor on the people they met.

I used to be a fan of this program, but have increasingly believed that it has run it's course some years ago.

I also think the Mini should have been allowed to win the hill climb event without the 10 second penalty!

what utter shite that was - i think they have got to the point where they just dont have to bother as they know that people will watch it.

all the jokes had been done before and i just cringed at most of the stuff they did

the only bit i laughed at was david cameron!


i had to watch 'it will be all right on the night' to get some laughs.

i challange anyone to watch this without crying real tears!

Me too. It was bottom-clenchingly embarrassing.

It is a load of crap now. As has been said, old jokes, one car at some point was going to get driven into...& as soon as the winch appeared on the front of the mini you just now the front was going to come off at some point. Best car.......have to say the Allegro, made it to the end with no sh*t mod's.

Well, that's it for me. I'm done with Top Gear - I've had an on going love/hate relationship with the show and although I like Clarkson's non PC view on life - I've now had enough.
What a terrible programme the Xmas Special was. For 90 minutes I waited for something entertaining and worthy of what must have been a big BBC budget show - all the way to India and for what?.
If it wasn't for the Mini, I'd have swapped channels well before the end.
Plus three very nice cars were abused and turned into scrap, what a shame for the Mini

Have to agree with you guys, i can`t stand Clarkson and his pathetic rantings, the show has long passed its sell by date, i for one will not miss his constant BL Bashing antics, i have a soft spot for Marinas and most things BL, despite their faults there are now too few left to waste them on cheap laughs for chavs

It’s all I could think after sitting through 90 minutes of prime-time car-based television adventuring thanks to the ‘boys’, and their increasingly immature, pointless old car antics. For those who didn’t watch (and I suggest you do while it’s still freely available on BBC’s excellent iPlayer service), the Top Gear trio ventured to India, for some old school car capers – just the sort of thing that we love to do here.
But whereas previous specials were inspired, brilliant edge of the seat entertainment combining humour and drama perfectly, this one seemed tired, uninspired and, well just plain, unoriginal. ‘Jezza’, ‘Captain Slow’ and ‘The Hamster’ (perfect nicknames for a trio tying to pass themselves off as superannuated public schoolboy mischiefs) know how to craft some of the best television known to mankind – but equally, when they get it wrong, it can be truly cringeworthy. And this year’s effort – in the main – was just that. As I said, a bloody shame.
