Engine colour

Post by 1967coopers1972 »

Hello in need of a little bit of advice on engine colour scheme, 1967 1275 S, having looked at hundreds of engine pictures posted all over the place the nearest one I can find that shows an engine just before installation at the factory is painted green all over including Dynamo, Started Motor, gearbox, and thermostat housing, I would like to hear any opinions on this subject as I would like it to look factory fresh if possible, many thanks in advance.

This is probably the most frequently asked question on this forum. So I would suggest that you search 'engine painting'. But be prepared for many versions/answers. What you are asking differs across the board to be honest regarding what was and what wasn't painted. The only thing of which you can be certain is that the engine and other bits were painted with a wishy-washy Mid Bronze Green paint that was issued in a gallon tin that had to last for a weeks engine production. Just joking in the last sentence!

For what it is worth, I have found starter motors with the mid bronze green only sprayed on the visible side - from what I believe to be original untouched cars.
