Not sure if this has been discussed before (can’t find it) but been having a bit of a hassle with noise and vibration. Exhaust is now a little quieter but still vibrations at speed. So, the solution? Remove new hard motor mounts and replace with decent used but softer ones. It has transformed the car, huge difference. More of a pleasure to drive now

Shame on you, I too get lots of vibration and noise and yes I reckon it could be reduced by softer exhaust mounts and engine mounts. I have owned my S since '79 and have since had engines in and out a number of times but have made no attempt to reduce the vibration as historically, for me it is part of the character of the car. Unlike many minis I have driven in over the years, when you turn the key and start the engine of my S it comes alive like no other. Destroys the art of conversation so the carrying of passengers is not encouraged but I enjoy the noise as part of the experience. I have a very lively 1380 fitted at the moment with twin 1-1/2" SU's with long bell mouths, these just add to my enjoyment as they just growl and bellow at you adding to the noise - enjoyment.

Scepticism confounded....or a Quiet Mini that is:-

However many of the 1980 "Quiet Mini" improvements were later removed by BL under a production cost cutting exercise....
