Distributor and coil

Working through the van, I decided to replace the distributor with this electronic version sold by Minispares

https://www.minispares.com/product/Clas ... |Back%20to

I think the coil is a bit suspect, probably not helped by it having being wired for -ve earth, while the battery was actually +ve! The whole lot has now been swapped to -ve (before the new Dizzy was fitted)

I had seen recommended fitting Mini spares uprated coil (MSC105 -COIL ORIGINAL SPORTS GOLD PERFORMANCE TYPE ) as a very good option, but I see that they recommend GCL216 (For non ballast / points distributors up to 1983) for the above distributor. Before I order one, am I right in thinking that the MSC105 is NOT suitable for their electronic ignition distributors?

GCL216 is a standard 3ohm coil for non-ballast systems
MSC105 is also a 3ohm coil. I'm not sure what makes it "sports" but it's interchangeable with the GCL216

Depending on the quality of the electronic module you can run a lower ohm coil (like 1.5) with no ballast

That distributer probably has mechanical advance. You might want to consider a distributer like the 123 that has programmable electronic advance.

Cheers. That's how I read it, but wanted to be sure.
