Very sad, just goes to show you, you’ve got to get out a live your life to the fullest. He was 100% 6 months ago and was all ready to enjoy the 2023 Minis to Ireland trip which he had planned and Recce. He will be missed in these event as he ruled with an Iron fist which was needed with some of the cowboy drivers. He was decisive and controversial but one thing he had was amazing passion and dedication to the Mini Coopers and particularly the Works Rally cars. I honestly have to say I really enjoyed the minis to events with him and can say they will never be the same without him. RIP Robert and thanks for all your help and advice when restoring ORX77F. Thought and prayers to Lesley and the family.

Very sad news. He worked hard to make the mini cooper register what it is today. My thoughts go to Lesley and all his family.

A sad day with the passing of Robert. My condolences to Lesley.
It sometimes feels to me, with old bones, that the original mini owning world is getting smaller

Very sad news indeed.
I had heard that Robert had been very ill over the last few months, but like a lot of people, I hoped that his condition was improving.
My thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.

Robert had me to blame I’m afraid for putting him up for the roles that he went on to dedicate so much of his time and his life to, which I know despite all the graft he enjoyed so much. Robert and I had banged heads plenty of times over the years with some pretty strong differences of opinion but he was always up for a civilised chat and there was always a chuckle at the end of it. Robert’s dedication to the marque - the Mini Cooper, especially the works rally cars and his beloved Mini Cooper Register was unquestionable, unshakable and will never be forgotten. Sincere condolences to Lesley and the family.
RIP Robert.

Like Pete I had some pretty strong differences of opinion with Robert over the years, especially when he did not take the opportunity to add David Vizard to the list of Honorary members of the MCR along with his offer to write occasional technical articles for CooperWorld magazine!
However, Robert was a very dedicated Chairman of the MCR for 14 years and prior to that was on the committee as Public Relations for 3 years, as well as being the 'Ex-Works and Competition Car Registrar'. Along with that loyal long service to the MCR, Robert will always be remembered for his definitive reference book 'The Works Minis in Detail' the result of many years of research by him and an essential read for any Mini enthusiast.
RIP Robert.

RIP Robert ..Without doubt "Works Minis in Detail" is a much needed reference book that will keep the name of Robert Young alive for generations to come.
Will be interesting to see the future evolution of the MCR.

So very sad. The last time I saw and spoke to him was organising the display of Cooper Ss in the centre of Beaulieu. He and Lesley were up to their necks in it thoroughly enjoying herding us all. He was charging about the field, seemed so fit and full of life. We never know do we? He wrote a little piece in April’s Cooperworld saying he was slowly recovering. Alas it was not to be.

Would love to have Mr Vizard as a honorary member. Essential reading for anyone my age. My How to modify your mini book has collapsed from over use!

I feel so fortunate to have spoken to Robert at last year's Beaulieu and thanked him personally for helping with my 'kind of works copy car' - a period S built for rallying that he had supported since 1990. RIP Robert, and thanks again.
