BMC Accessories…
Hello all,
I’ve been looking at the main site at the accessories brochures, and wondered if anybody has this particular accessory:
This is something I’d love to get my hands on, even just to slot my phone into (or for when I actually do decide a cigarette’s necessary at the side of the road whilst waiting for the recovery truck to pick me up! ) but they seem scarce indeed…
Would love to see one fitted to a car if you have AKF 1016, or even just see a proper picture of one if you have one available.
This picture was lifted from AKD 2109, the link here follows to the main site for those curious to investigate themselves…

What other accessories are seldom seen nowadays that others would love to get their hands on! Let’s see all the weird and the wonderful…
Once again, thanks Mark for hosting this amazing treasure trove and allowing me to lose another evening in amongst it all!

Re: BMC Accessories…
I have had a couple of those ashtrays, but not for many a long year.
BMC did make a fantastic range of accessories, but they are all few & far between nowadays. Sadly, the ones that are available seem to go for silly money & just end up on someone's shelf & rarely make it into an actual car.

Had a pair some years back, made 2-300£ on ebay I recall, to Japan.
Vilosport handles come to mind.sugarhiccup wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2024 9:49 am What other accessories are seldom seen nowadays that others would love to get their hands on! Let’s see all the weird and the wonderful…

Why doesn’t that surprise me at all… I love seeing things get put to good use rather than gathering dust! Well one can keep their hopes up that a reasonably priced item would turn up eventually, or perhaps improvise somewhat… I haven’t seen the underneath, but I wonder how hard it would be to build a replica around something like this which is somewhat vaguely similar looking if you squint hard enough!

Wow. I had never previously been aware of these, and am shocked I hadn’t come across them before! They’re absolutely amazing! Especially for those that don’t have double jointed arms for the spoon handles!!Vilosport handles come to mind.
You can spot them in here on the main site for those others playing along at home…:

I may well be guilty of having a dusty one somewhere. We took it out of my wife's car as the old tobacco smell wasn't in vogue!!!

Do you think the ashtray is from another bmc vehicle? Looks bigger than the mini version? Which car?

I just love the idea that the small “4 seat” car with 3 ashtrays needs another one on the door

Re: BMC Accessories…
I found a NOS ash tray (including tatty BMC box!) last year at an autojumble. Cost me £40 so you can still stumble across these bargains! Last time I saw one on eBay was a couple years ago and it went for £250-£300 if I recall correctly.
Planning to fit mine in my 1071 in the coming months.
I have seen one of these with a black plastic insert/tub instead of the metal flip top ash tray but not sure if this was a genuine BMC part.

The one with the black plastic sounds like an Innocenti part, or possibly Authi.Scott Gray wrote: ↑Sat Apr 20, 2024 7:34 am I found a NOS ash tray (including tatty BMC box!) last year at an autojumble. Re: BMC Accessories…
Yes but they aren't very big ashtrays. As I remember it, my Mum would fill up the front one pretty rapidly and then be forced to commit the crime of littering until she got round to emptying it. She generally found that the two ashtrays in the back weren't that convenient while driving, and anyway, we kids would have jammed them full of lolly wrappers or something. We were only passive smokers at that age.

HAHA, excellent!
Reminds me of being a young boy, sitting with mum and dad on the sofa at home… Both of them are smoking either side of me, and I’m in the middle watching cartoons through a veil of smoke! No wonder I could never work out who the Scooby Doo villain was!

So glad to hear you’ll be fitting it, feel free to share a pic back here later on once it is…!

Wow, thank you Mark and Zootmini. Really appreciate these images! It looks a decent size, I do like the look of it.
I hope I’ll get to see one in the flesh one day, or perhaps even own one…!

Re: BMC Accessories…
Is it big enough for an iPhone, and will it wireless charge my cold coffee?
Just spent an hour reading how occupants use current car stowage features. Ash trays were not mentioned, though lockable gloveboxes were in america, where they typically keep their car-guns! and european cup holders are too small.(buy smaller bottles of sugary carbonated water?)

Re: BMC Accessories…
That ashtray has given me an idea for a cup or bottle holder though…
Cheers
