Rocker Box Cover

Post by Mar6Gor6MG6 »

Replaced Cork Gasket on Rocker cover, however before putting back noticed Rust on the inside of the cover.Scraped most or it off but some stubborn parts. Any recommendations as to what's best to get rid of it and can it be painted afterwards, cheers Gordon.

i would give it a rub with emery cloth then use rust eater such as Jenolite something that kills the rust & seals the surface.. No paint on the inside of a Rocker Cover

I'm surprised that there is rust inside your rocker cover....... There's usually so much oily vapour in there that rust should never even start to form. So what was the reason?

Definitely no paint on the inside though

I have seen rust on the inside. Usually in engines that have done endless short journeys and never got hot enough to disperse all the condensation that is naturally caused from cold. Not changing the oil and general neglect won't help - as well as standing, unused for long periods.

To Old English White, you are right, The car was in a collection and has only done 220 miles in the last 8 years. It has had a very light maintenance, plugs points air filter oil change and filter and It runs ok, but I think maybe it does need a good blowout up the Motorway instead of round the.doors. I haven't had it long 4 or 5 weeks and with all this rain haven't had it out since I bought it.. Hopefully as weather improves I will be taking it out almost every day and the journeys won't be local. Thanks for all the replies.
