No one should ever scrap any Mini or Metro engine/gearbox these days! Especially a 1275cc MG Metro engine which is one of the most desirable A+.
Always offer to sell or give them away for spares or repair first to any takers.
They are no longer found in the few breakers yards that remain around the UK and replacements are of course not coming out of any BL/Rover factories anymore....
Source Vehicle : MG Metro
Engine type & CC : A+ 1275 cc Transverse mounted
Fueling :
Engine features :
Pre-engaged starter
1985 Requirements
Breakerless (electronic) ignition
Gearbox features :
Std. Ratio Rod Change gearbox with Pot Joints
3.4:1 Final Drive
Engine No: 12HC 14AA 11232

It’s an MG Metro engine. Don’t chuck it out, it’s worth selling even as a core unit.

Please do not scrap it. Sell it or give it away if you want rid but do not scrap it.

A complete MG Metro engine and box - if it turns over by hand - is £500 minimum.
That would have been an expensive mistake!

Thanks for your comments, I will check tomorrow to see if it turns over, I also have a 1275 GT engine which is not complete but it has been rebored and has new pistons on the Conrods, I have to try to sell most of the parts I have to finance my GT and the classic bikes( about eight) which I have had since the 1960s, I am eighty now and feel I am running out of time.

Hi Colin, my Dad is 84 this year and still going strong with his classic cars, it's what keeps him going.
You've certainly a few £'s there with that MG Metro lump. Will make very good money if its not seized and even if it is, will still be very sought after.

Thanks for the encouragement from those of you who that are around my age I did try to turn the engine today but it didn’t move, i will take a couple of photos and see if someone will make me an offer, my problem is like most of our age I am not in the best of health but I work most days either on one of my bikes or one of my cars, I also walk a few miles every week and just starting a new project, the young lad we brought up from a baby when we were 47 started road racing a ex apple yard R6 in 2022 but has now bought a ZX10R 1000 Kawasaki which we will be preparing for him to race,so something to look forward to. thanks again and sorry to go on. PS I won’t scrap the engine.

I wouldn't worry about your age Colin. I'm 75 and been around the block a few times, still own a Mini Cooper and a much loved kick-start era Commando
