Spent a bit of time with my Cooper S today, on its 60th birthday since it was first built. I had hoped to finish it time for today, but only the engine to go in now so not too far away
I used to navigate this car in rallies with the superb driver Peter Webster and it served us well. It really deserved this rebuild.

...and inside it still has the seats that the first owner fitted in Feb 64... and bits and bobs that came later in the late 60s. There are a few replacements in here of course, but even the brocade is original

Thanks to you for the dash metal of course, the originals were literally ripped out after a crash in the 80s. The tacho was fitted from new according to the wife of the original owner.

They are the early ST Grp 2 arches with the little cut out for the chrome whiskers. You'll spot them on the early works cars, and later ones are smoother without the cut out. The chap who first took it rallying at the end of the sixties bought mostly ST parts. The early ST sump guard is now ready to go on as the later Tech Del one got smashed on a rally unfortunately... but it is all part of the car's history

It's SO good to see an "S" restored to such a high standard of finish AND retaining all its real life history
How many Mini Coopers ran through the 1960s in completely standard form
Not many. Love to see some period accessories - especially on the actual car they were originally fitted to in the first place.
It's lovely Andy. A real credit to you. Keep it up. You're nearly there now!

My 55th birthday in a month or two. I'll remember it and make a point of warming it up and calling out '....happy biirthday SKD....'
