As title really, how possible is it to convert an LSD remote gearbox back to an open diff ?
Does it depend on the gearbox casing/casting and LSD make ?

There shouldn’t be an issue as long as you have the standard parts to replace the LSD.
The diff housing will have been relieved a little to fit the LSD but that won’t affect anything if you return to the standard diff.
The parts you’ll need depend on the type of output shafts you’re intending to use. That is, whether you’re using pot joints, rubber joints or ‘S’ type Hardy Spicers. But in addition to the diff, you’ll also need a standard crown wheel and pinion.

Depending on the particular LSD, some, you can remove the clutch washers from and put thrust washers in there.

Thanks for the replies, my question was really focused on any mods or machining to the diff housing etc…and whether these could stop or make it difficult for an open diff to be refitted

I made up a jig to mount tranny cases in my milling machine to relieve for posi diffs. I also have jig to mount diff housings in my lathe. Machining the case should have no ill effect on returning to open diff. I have even been ask to machine posi diff housing to reduce break off to 5 lb. ft. for a trailer queen former race car. Made loading and driving around show area easier. Steve (CTR)
