Just wondering if anyone else has had a problem refitting side quarter light windows (piano hinge) after replacing the rubbers ? I have fitted new rubbers supplied by Pheonix trim, the problem I have is the windows seem to be binding due to the thickness of the rubber over the screw mounting points, I am reluctant to try trimming the rubber but fear this might be the only solution, any help, suggestions welcome.

Having no other solutions i trimmed the rubber seal in area of the Piano Hinge .. then some say use the Seals supplied from MS .. i did & still not the best solution.

Are you talking about the rubber that holds the glass into the frame or the rubber seal that fits on the edge of the window aperture?
I use Phoenix aperture rubber seals on my mk1 and they are a good fit. A little stiff on the closer but bedding in nicely.
I use all their seals.

Hello the seal I am referring to is the one siting in the window aperture (on the body) I must admit I thought it was going to be one of those easy hour long jobs but after a full afternoon of cursing I don't feel any further forward it is one of the most frustrating jobs in the build, I agree they can be closed fine under pressure but tension on glass to me is a bit of a worry, it may be a bit of a dumb question but have I got the windows in the correct fitting sequence ? as it is I have fitted the hinge directly to the bodywork then fitted the rubber seal ( covering the hinge), it was over 40 years ago when I stripped it down and coming up to 70 the mind does some funny things.

Should look like this, they were very tight on the rubber at first but ok now the seal has 'formed' around the screws and rivets heads. I lubricated the seal with DC4 as well.

Many thanks for all your reply's, my old Dad used to say your never to old to learn and it's so true, I am so pleased that in this day and age there is still people who can come together with help when needed, on another subject not very pleased with Mr Newton today, fitted front door inserts with relative ease but the front pocket liners were another matter the three holes that fix it to the bottom of the door were a good 1/2" out strange because all their other panels seem very good oh well.

I have had the same problem - I suspect the modern seals are the slightly larger/stiffer. I over came this by tweeking the flange that the seal fits on to. Using mole grips to gentle bend the flange into the car. This needs care to be done a bit at a time to be consistent all the way round. You can create the space needed for the seal. Good luck.it is very time consuming but gave me the solution and my windows are now a snug fit without any stress on the piano hinge.
