If the Fiat was a true modern reincarnation of the original it would have an air cooled engine in the rear.....

Interestingly the modern Fiat 500 was designed by Frank Stephenson who also designed the R50 MINI for Rover/BMW.

So the manufacturer takes some styling cues and use the name from the original and succeed in selling them.
They are just cars. By and ‘large’ infinitely better in reality

Agreed , also the 1st of the R50 MINIs are now 22 years old launched on July 7th 2001 and are now collectible especially the 'Y' reg ones in UK , I have a 65 Cooper S ( stripped for rebuild after 2001 Retro Circuit of Ireland and still in boxes ) ,a 1968 998 Cooper , a Y reg Cooper built in April 2001 and registered the day before launch day , daily driver is an F56 Cooper S with Works 'pro kit' , does this make Me less of an enthusiast ? I doubt it , I genuinely thought this nonsense was over years ago , G

Perhaps the most famous of the press cars was RE02 VOM which unfortunately had been reported as being scrapped within the last 2 years by someone who had contact with the garage who broke the car....

I’ve about as much interest in MINIS as I have underwater ping pong but the suggestion that the Germans ruined the Mini is utterly ridiculous, not to mention tedious all these years later.

They certainly know how to milk the heritage and achievements of the original Mini though which they have no connection with whatsoever. Keeps the original in the spotlight though I suppose if that’s important, no idea! It’s just a badge, can’t see how anybody would get upset about it.

I used to cringe when you saw the 'True Brit No German Shit' stickers adorning the back window of 90's Mini Mayfairs with shizz glued all over them at just about every Mini show 10 years ago.
