Hi, assistance is seek in finding the correct choke cable for the Oct 1964 onward Cooper S, should it be the one with the letter "C" at the end ? or the type with the CHOKE letter?
It is hard to find both now in NOS condition.

Good luck finding an original in any condition. They are RARE, RARE, RARE!

I fitted one of these repro's to my car. Lasted all of five minutes before the lock gave way and the weight of the jet return springs reset it to a no-choke position. Good luck, maybe you'll get a better specimen than I did.

The couple of repros that I have had, have done exactly the same.

I know the guy who makes them for MS, I'll tell him they are rubbish

These are easy to repair, I did mine three years ago and have had no more probs.
The lock is a small plastic segment and wears through quickly. To repair just push the black spring along the choke body and replace the original segment with a metal one - I made mine from a 1/4” bolt.

Simple repair to solve the non locking locking Cooper S choke cable from Minispares (and probably all the other suspects) problem.

Buy a NOS mk3 cable, use the outer cable from that with your early repro inner cable and it will work. It’s the shite outer cable that’s the problem.

Done this on three cables now and works every time.

i have what I believe to be the original cable on my 66 S, It has "choke" following the circumference at the top, "lock" at the bottom and arrows on each side indicating the direction.

The lock has long since failed but the trusty vintage clothes peg works everytime

Really shouldn’t have to though.

I’ll have to revisit this on my car as the solid cored one I made struggles to pull the twin chokes.
