i had a nice walk of shame again yesterday.

yep, i ran out of petrol again...........

I've done it twice, both times in a Mini. The first time I knew it was low but as I work about 100 yards from a petrol station I thought I would fill it up on the way home. I work nights and during the night we had almost a foot of snow. I was so excited I overlooked the petrol situation, jumped in the car and drove the length of the car park, did a handbrake turn in the fresh snow, accelerated back down the car park and did another handbrake turn at the other end in front of all my colleagues and then drove out of the car park with another handbrake turn onto the road for good measure, and promptly ran out of petrol blocking both lanes (There is excellent visibility in both directions and there was no traffic around at the time in case I have made this sound dangerous, it wasn't). I got a push from a couple of people who came down the road and found their progress blocked by my car. If you think this makes me sound like a bit of a knob, well I felt like one. To make it even worse the lock on the petrol cap had frozen solid and it took me 10 minutes to get it off drawing the attention of numerous people and the petrol station staff who came out to ask why I was taking so long.

The second time the sender was broken, I made it to work fine but it wouldn't restart. I could hear the pump wasn't picking anything up so I assembled a group of my colleagues and once again got a push. It was less embarrassing that time but it was enough to ensure I'm more careful now.

Will you ever learn?

I have managed to drive my car into the gas station,
then fill some petrol on, and then have to run the ignition 2 times (VW Golf)
to pump up fuel so it would start, and I have done it more than once

some day I WILL run out, before I get to the gas station ha ha,
and it will be the day, its poring down with rain

Ha, reminds me of about 25 years ago and a mate of mine worked for a petrol station. Used to fill my car and I would give him a tenner or so. Pulled up in my Riley Elf (LCB, big exhaust, Minilites very tricky) and he filled it up for me. Got to about £25 and looked a bit puzzled thinking that is a lot of fuel before we realised we were in a puddle of the stuff. Bilstein shocks had burst a hole in the rotten shock turret and through the petrol tank. Felt like a right t*t!

Rich, you're going to have to start putting more than £5 in at a time!

or just own up about why you keep 'running out of petrol' in remote layby's after dark.

Last summer I ran out off fuel three miles from home, no problem, nice walk home pick up the can of fuel in the garage walk back to car and drive home................ got to my house to discover I'd left the garage door 'flipper' in the car!..... massive sense of humour failure resulted in me getting a taxi back to the car to get the key, back to my house to get the fuel can and back to the car! cost me £20 for the taxi.

I couldn't count how often I've run out of fuel.

Was driving a customers car some years back when it spluttered to a halt. I suspected the pump was dodgy as I felt there was probably enough fuel. As I was in the empty countryside I figured I had nothing to loose by trying to get the fuel into the float chamber by putting mouth over tank neck and giving one helluva puff a couple of times.

Bloody well worked! It got me about half a mile or so , so I got back after about three stops

Was on my way to the Regent Street Motor Show the other weekend to display my "S". Drove onto the Shell forecourt and parked by the nice V-Power pump. Filled both tanks to the top and as I replaced the nozzle I thought oh F***! I had just filled the tanks with £60-worth of diesel!!. Never done it before and have no idea how I managed to do it this time. Garry.

Yes, drove away after my mate came to the rescue with a large electric pump, hose and two very large cans - and spending another £60 on petrol!
