Have a look

Getting the vintage car ready for the vintage rival race this weekend.....last time out I had massive overheating......I was looking at everything that might be the cause. Checked the V belt....seemed tight enough...was sitting down in the pulley....thought that looked a bit odd!
Took it out...take a look at the state of the belt!
No wonder it was overheating

Going to have to find a proper V belt....hate these tooth style.
BTW, won't say where these are made....you can guess!

Was it a Gates belt
are you using a dynamo or alternator
is there any problem with the pulleys

Gates...no dynamo...no alternator...race car.
Pulleys are perfectly aligned. Can only assume they are crap and don't like 8K + for sustained periods.
Didn't have a problem last year when I was using an old proper V belt.
I had a close look at a new belt today.....comparing it to the old V belt....there is a slight different in the 'V'....cog belt is ever so slightly wider at the bottom of the cogs/teeth.....I suspect this is causing the cogs/teeth to be taking all of the stress...the top section is probably slight loose...
Think the solution is to source an old style V belt with no cogs/teeth.

I wonder if the country that copies everything are making copies of Gates belts, if it was a road car I would take it to trading standards but as a race car you can't

Took the mini out to our vintage revival weekend...replaced the belt with another Gates.
No issues this time....still looks OK!
Car went well...couple of niggly issues first this....sorted and then went like a bat out of hell.
Had a blast...brought back memories from the past.
Attaching a picture of me being chased by a giant muscle car...no contest in the corners but he did have so much HP down the straights.

Vintage cars run the 10 inch rims....as far as I know....there is only one tire now in 10"...American Hoosier....sort of a semi-slick....has four grooves....not a great tire.....it sure doesn't have the grip of a pure slick.

Hey Dermott,
Mini is looking good! You going to come down for the Mini CANAM Challenge next year? It’s going to be at Hallett Raceway in Oklahoma next October.
