Exhaust mountings

I’m considering converting my exhaust mountings to the rubber hangers to cut down on cabin noise. Has anyone done this and found any improvement? Exhaust is a twin box Maniflow 1 3/4.

They did this on post 91 cars according to Somerford,
https://www.somerfordmini.co.uk/exhaust ... rd-1985-on, not sure how the rubber doughnuts fit on the rear subframe though

My subframe had the brackets but I cut them off. They are available as bolt on though.
Wondering if they’re likely to transmit less vibration and noise. Theory is that they should, at the moment the boom through the body at speed is ridiculous.

My experience is going the other way.
I work on a lot of injection cars with the bigger rubber hangers. When fitting new exhaust systems I revert back to old style hangers. Doing this to my mind lifts the exhaust back into a more positively located position and improves ground clearance considerably.
My exhaust of choice is a single muffler side exit RC40 system. Can't say we have any issues with excessive cabin noise and certainly don't get any customers coming back asking for anything quieter.
Maybe the booming is more to do with the exhaust, rather than the method of mounting.

I had a 1 7/8 twin box Maniflow on an SPi, on those mounts and I don’t recall it being anything like as noisy as this one

Most of the resonance on minis I find are due to crap modern engine mounts .

This is a good point. What do you recommend replacing with?

Are they too stiff or not stiff enough

Original Mowog mounts are what you need ,they normally have a part number on them for ID .
