Old photos of racing minis with Weller wheels

Post by Miniracer »

Hey folks

Im hoping someone is able to share some photos of racing Morris minis with Weller wheels same as the ones in the photo, I found on 10inchclubs Instagram page.

Preferably 10x4.5 or 5"

I contacted Weller unfortunately they don't have any old images available.

Thanks in advance!

Hi
I don't have any pictures but I do have some wheels that I can take pictures of, if that helps you?

How are you defining 'racing Morris Minis' or do you really mean modified road going Minis?

Not many racing Minis would have used Weller steel wheels as lighter alloy wheels were allowed in most classes of Mini racing by 1969 when Weller wheels first appeared, so I don't think you will find many old photos. In the early years of Mini Se7en racing they used Dunlop Reverse rim steel wheels to keep costs lower but later allowed a Minilite style alloy wheel.
In the world of modified Minis I remember Weller wheels were more common on road going cars and Minis in the 1970's and later, where the owners budget did not stretch to more expensive alloy rims.

Very interesting. A couple of weeks ago there was a van parked in town with "Weller wheels" and Weller decals. Just sayin." I think they are VW based now?

Honestly the Wellers look cheap. IMHO they where always the choice if you had bad taste in combination with shallow pockets*

*as opposed to the more common combi "bad taste and deep pockets"

I ran them on my old van… I loved how they looked after I powder coated them black.

That's awesome thankyou for sharing those. Absolutely awesome.

Now I need to try and find some original advertising for these wheels.
