BMH - 2022 busiest ever year for supplying bodyshells

Post by mab01uk »

The latest Mini Magazine reports that Heritage supplied more bodyshells than ever in 2022. To date it has built over 6,300 shells for the MGB, MG RV8, MG Midget, Austin-Healey Sprite, Triumph TR6 and all marks of the classic Mini, as well as thousands of individual panels.
A total of 45 Mini shells were supplied last year; adding the requirements for such 'new' classics as the Mini Remastered, RBW Electric MGB and Frontline MGB to the ongoing stream sought by those restoring to original. BMH also shipped 32 MGB bodies as well as their first MG Midget body since 2019. Also to ensure better longevity apparently the quality of steel and OE specification primer finish differs from the originals.

"British Motor Heritage holds over 1,000,000 original engineering drawings, unfortunately these were taken out of recorded archives from the British Motor Museum at Gaydon when Rover Group was sold. They were going to be destroyed but British Motor Heritage stepped in and took delivery of 4 x 40 foot containers full of drawings and drawing cabinets. Our goal is to create a digital library of all of the original drawings and make them available to you the British Motor Heritage family. We have now embarked on digitising all of these drawings, it is a painstaking process but eventually we will have a full library of the drawings available. We will update this page as and when we have further news."

The quality of BMH shells has been pretty damn good for a couple of years now.

As with all things, if you choose to find fault you will be able to find stuff to moan about, if you are looking for a practical, legal alternative to doing a hooky reshell, then it is an excellent way to go.
