I have the valve cover on my car- with the elbow tube on it that normally goes to the carburetor air box. What she came with.

What she also came with- is the dual round chrome k&n pancake filters on the HS2's.

When i got it, there was no hose on it, and there is no provision for one on the base of the filters.

So what do you gents do with the vent tube in that situation? Just cap it off?

I wouldn't block it off as it should breath through there. We used to use a catch can of some kind, like for example a castrol oil can where the pipe went into it and any oil in the the fumes was 'caught'.

Sounds as if you may have two rh filters too???? Normally the one on the left (as you sit in the car) has a take off pipe to attach too??

There's a saying about A-series engines that is true, "If you think you have enough breathers, add one more". So, don't block it off as Andy says.

Well, thats sorted then! Thanks for the replies folks. Looks like I'll be figuring out a way to connect it up the the filters proper.

I’m sure you can find something similar locally, but this is what I use on my filters. You need a hole in the backing plate, then the spout pushes in and then connects to the breathers

The majority of these are just left to vent to air. There are no issues with leaving it like this. But as has already been said, you could always add a 1/2" spout to the back of one of your filters if you fancy. Not sure it makes much difference though.

I'm no stickler for factory correctness by any means. But i am relatively new to the mini 4cyl.

I wasn't sure if i would have problems with oil blow by, or if these engines liked having a cleaner airflow... or routing.

I'm well familiar with older vw motors, and certain things were done a certain way on those- as you'd quickly find your engine oil laying in the drive and not in the car where it belonged... if you didn't.

So i thought it worth an ask.

I’d just check that the rocker cover pipe has a little baffle plate on the bottom, which helps to slow the oil droplets from leaving. Ideally you only want the vapour exiting the pipe. The position above the rocker arms can flick quite a bit of oil without the baffle

I cover the end of mine with a bit of finger bandage,(gauze) and change it when it starts to look dirty. Keeps the bugs out too.
