Does anyone have any experience of using pot joints in a remote 1128 box at all . I’ve been using the MED hardy spicer converters with pot joint output shafts . Works well no problems but there out of stock at the moment . So I was just wondering if anyone is using pot joints. Benefits, there readily available, and not to expensive. How would they compare to say Quinton hazel / rubber crosses / S hardy spicer set up in strength reliability in a 100 bhp fast road engine . Opinions appreciated… Shirley

I use pot joints on my 1128 gearbox. They’re much better than rubber cross & QL5000 type uni joints.

I don’t know how they compare for outright strength compared to a hardy spicer, but they will inherently be smoother due to the constant velocity design

I would agree... replaced the output shafts, side covers and drive shafts on my S gearbox. I used second hand bits that have lasted without any issues for many years.

I've converted to pot joints - I have an 846 box and I've dry fitted the Maniflow Freeflow manifold and seems to clear.

I've got 1128 boxes & pot joints in two of my cars. One has a Freeflow and the other has had both a Metro cast iron LCB and an MPi LCB fitted with no problems.
If you're feeling flash, you can also use the Hardy Spicer converters on a pot joint diff.

After a phone call to Minispares they informed me that they have the MED hardy spicer converters to pot joint outputs in stock . So had a trip down to Minispares. Taken on board the info and may well try pot joints in the future … thanks Shirley

Rich & I have both used Pot joints in an 1128 box. Much better than any of the other alternatives really.

Another voice in favour of pot joints here! They work well with my current setup which, on paper, should be pushing out around 100hp at the flywheel.

Used them on the rally car with that box, never had a problem with them and they clear the exhuast. Primarily cos I couldn't afford the hardy splicer setup

I too use pots on my mk1 remote, I used all second hand parts to save money. There are however two different sizes to be aware of.

I discovered this when fitting a complete post '84 driveshaft and disc set up to a '74 rod change box. The later pot joint diff input diameter was larger. I'd already transplanted the '74 unit into the car and was planning on simply sliding in the whole driveshaft/pot joint assemblies in afterwards. No go.
Choice was to change the diff output covers or swap the pot joints on the shafts so I went for the latter.
