Thanks for explanation it's starting to make sense - strange though that they were inclined to put the 'day' into the casting and not for example just the month.
By any chance is this block available - falls into my date search...

The reason is to track specific items in the event of a large scale issue or recall. They could narrow the search campaign to a specific date range.

One of my 1071 blocks has a very poor date casting.....looks like 23 C.....then the rest is unreadable.
The front of the block has C2905...all three caps have the same number.
Any thoughts on when it was cast?

Having spent nearly 15 years collecting parts for my 1071 I'm not sure the project will ever be complete under my care. I did pull the block out last night. The cast number is 22 D$D and stamped # seems to be C 3584. Does that sound right for a May 1964? Thanks Steve (CTR)

The cast number will probably be 22 D5D rather than 22 DSD, that would make it 22 April 65

Just so things don't get too confused. The '$' is the shifted '4' on an American keyboard. I know the UK keyboards are different having spent some time looking for '$' on one.
