Best colour for a Minisprint

I am calling to all of you Mini nutters, to poll on what is your best colour for a mk1 Minisprint. I was going for the Speedwell blue theme, but, even being all Speedwell'ed, I find it not-so-the-end-of-the-world. Mark's Tweed Grey looks gorgeous though, and it's in my list of preference. But then a friend of mine came forward today with a crazy thought. Porsche Aubergine, with a White roof. Don't you spit at me, please.... Comments? Even the rat look is considered....

Matt Black, the colour of the original trickett racer. That's if it's raced up.

If it isn't. Tweed Grey/ OEW.

I've always said I'd like a black one like Steve B's S&A car, as you mention a different roof colour I'm assuming it's for a car with a roof gutter, you could add a black roof to the speedwell blue, surf blue looks good, depending on age of the car island blue, metallic colours were popular on the S&A cars, Marks car is a great colour ( I'm not exactly answering the question here am I !), so I suppose it depends on the over all look you are going for, standard road car that you have to look a twice to see that anythings been done to it = standard period colour combo of your choice, Racer = your own imagination :)

Sorry lads, forgot to mention a couple of things. Car was done to be a everyday commuter, but I m willing to use most of my original Speedwell bits on it, anycase not a racer, and I kept the roof gutters. The idea is to have a car that - when another Mini is not near - may not be spotted by the untrained eye as the somewhat special body that actually is.... "Just a funny old mini, mate, look how cute and small they were...."
So I'm basically trying to avoid flashy colours. But that Aubergine is temPting me...

I quite like the metallic Rolls and Aston colours on Minisprints like this one (same colour as my W&P)

You probably have Jens , it was the first Rob Walker revival sprint that Dave Gilbert built (white stripe across the bonnet) pictured here at Bulee.

What pete said is just what I was thinking. I like the sport pack in Tahiti Blue for the same reason, the metalic blues look great with a curved car.

If you went with a modern colour you could use base coat and clear paint rather than solid 2 pack. The other advantage is it would be easier to match in the future, if you had repairs to do.

Grey is high in fashion now. Even in matt. But my aim is a colour that was available -even if not so common- in the '60s. Farina Grey is a bit boring tho'... Tweed is much better! My provocation with the aubergine colour isn't stimulating any comments?

I'm with Pete on the colour, Metallic Rolls or Aston for me. I believe the Sprints look much better in a monotone colour whether or not the roof gutters remain.

Paul you've already said you want the car to be subtle, and although the Porsche colour is nice you would need something like a silver roof to set it off (in my opinion), then you might get people thinking you were trying to do a broadspeed car and got it wrong :P , when did Black Tulip come out, that may be an alternative. Going back to 60's colours if I ever get the chance to get another MK 1 it's going to have to be Surf Blue :D

How about Island Green or, close to that, Jaguar's Willow green?
And, speaking about Jaguar colours, they had this fantastic Morrocco Red in their portfolio in the mid-1990s, which was in fact a deep dark metallic purple.
I reckon that would look good on a Sprint.

PS: I can't recall having ever seen pictures of the MiniSprint racer in Matt black?

Florida Green. Old BMC colour for Morris Minors etc. Had a Mk 1 painted in this colour with OEW roof and it was so popular with passers by it was astonishing. My poor old Island Blue S got few by comparison.
