Hello all, this is my first post. I have a MK2 Cooper, it has genuine Minilights 10" The measurement across the rim is 7". When I got the car it had an assortment of varius wheel nuts, I binned these and fitted a set off my MG Midget. I am sure these are wrong too! Looking at pics of Minilights they seem to have a large nut with a flange bearing on the wheel surface. Can someone advise what is the correct nuts and where can I get them. I have tried two well known suppliers who say thy do,nt know. I am a little relutant to drive the car until I get this sorted. Thanks for your help. Beegee

if your measuring 'rim to rim' and getting 7" then its probably a 6" wheel (you measure inner rim - inner rim)
the minilight nuts differ between a 5" & a 6" as the shanks are longer on the 6" wheel.

note:- in the photo the washer is fitted the wrong way round

Genuine Minilights (not the best wheel ever made) or genuine Minlites? Big difference.
Guru's link shows Minilite lugs and the washer is correct, at least for the current generation of Minilite wheels. (I haven't dug through the garage to check originals.) The face of the wheel where the washer fits is flat. Fitting the washer the other way 'round makes a right mess of the hole and doesn't provide much contact surface area.
Someone check the Minilife wheels. I think they have the tapered hole.

the minilife nuts wont fit the genuine minilights as the shank is a different size (and length) and the washer is tapered.
come to think of it, the reason the washer is the 'wrong way round' in the photo of the minilight nut is to reflect that sometimes the nuts come with tapered washers, some time flat!

Hi all, thanks for the replies to date. I am sure they are genuine Minilights. Stamped on the wheel is Minilight and Made in England. The face of the wheel where the washer sits is flat, the depth of hole is 2.5mm but there is a taper in the base which the suggested nuts from Guru does not show, ie, shank is flat ,no bevel. Getting more confused!! Beegee.

any of the shanked nuts have a removable 'floating' washer which can be either flat or tapered at one side to help with nuts locate in the wheel.
on some genuine minilight wheels the washer is flat (i.e the hole in the wheel is flat also), some have a tapered washer (i.e, suggesting that the wheel has a tapered hole). you can turn the washer around so that the taper points towards the nut and fits a flat holed wheel if required. from memory its the newer wheels that have a flat washer.
the most important measurements are the size of the shank of the nut & the bore of the hole in the wheel, as minilights tend to be a little thicker than all other nuts (bar one particular revolution, which is far thicker, but thats another story!) and the length as its important to ensure that the nut is not flush or even poking through the back of the wheel

Rich whats stamped on the minilife wheels ??? identification wise
I got 20 odd sets of wheels with the mini, most of them are minilife's i think ? (car was sponsered by minispares) and they take sleved nut and a tapered washer.
The magnesium mnilights (stamped with minilight magnesium) take a flat washer and theres a set of minitaur things which look like they take a normal nut
PD

I think Minilight and Minilite are getting mixed up in a couple of posts. BIG difference between the two...and I'm not aware of any Minilight wheels being made in magnesium. Minilite, yes.

I agree
i get mixed up with them all.
The genuine ones are MINILITE's (techdel from the 60's and 90's onwards) (as in there for a MINI and there LITE)
Minilight - dubious replicas
Minilife - Minispares replica ( very nice though i must add)
