carb clearance issues 970s

I'm test fitting the carbs to my 970 and I notice the carb float bowl is REALLY close to the bulkhead on the right-hand carb (when viewed from in front of the car)

It's even worse when i use the half inch carb spacer that i need to make the carbs clear the exhaust...

Any one else had this issue? guess it's the same problem on a 1070 too?

James

The carburettor's should be symmetrical, have you got the correct float chambers?? :?

And manifold ? I have seen many different twin SU alloy manifolds, all made by MOWOG,

But they are different, as some are for "inline" engines = Midget / Healey / etc

- What type of carbs are you trying to make fit?
- what type os casting numbers to they got?
- Which manifold are you using - look at casting number.
- What type of "drive" is the car... i.e LHD or RHD?
- What type of front subframe is on your car? Auto-type?

All engine mounts/remote/tie bar fitted
RHD car, std manual subframe.

They are just twin HS2's on a 661 manifold.

The carbs are closer to the radiator end of the engine bay anyway and the bulkhead curves round, I'll post a photo.

Autotype should only improve space, for carbs, as it moves the engine forward.

here is a photo with the half inch spacer.

The black plate to the right has quite a thick rubber gasket under it (of my making) so i'll start by replacing it with a thinner one.

Hi,James,
My HS2 SU set up is the same as yours, using 661 manifold, correct su angle adaptor block, but my fuel hose almost touching the float bowl, cause I had used the dry susp hose leading plate, looks like you are using the wet bracket, so fuel hose clears the bowl,in my case I need to re route the hose, once it does not touch the engine bulkhead, it is OK!
Are you using the 544 cam on your little S motor? What angle you time-in the cam?
Lots of fun, right? :D

:P
