Just received a nice pair of Lucas lamps, one fog and one spot. Which way round should they go? Thinking fog to the nearside and spot to the offside..?

Like you, I always thought that the FOG light should illuminate the side of the foggy road. The spot light was to light up the road ahead. But when the fog is ON, the spot should be OFF. Just what my dad told me in the 60's!

Ah, that's interesting on the switching arrangement. I was going to set them so that neither of them were available until the headlamp switch was set to dipped beam, and then have the spotlamp circuit live only when main beam is engaged. The fog would be available switched independently with dipped or main beam. I'll also make the rear foglamp circuit available on the same basis.
As for the flash lamp switch, I was going to make that illuminate main beam, fog and spot.

To be honest, I had all manner of lights on my Rover Cooper sport. Head, spot, Fog, high intensity rear brake, rear fog........ dip and high. It was doin' me 'ed in! The switches were all wired so that certain permutations were............... Anyway..... I just took the two middle front lamps off and disconnected the outer two. Simple is best.

The rear fog bracket was already rusty in the showroom so that went too. Simple is best.
