While looking for something else, I found this today.
The Vertical (1071 style) Oil cooler was still being offered as an accessory as late as 1968 for the non Cooper Mini's & variants.

As Michael Caine would say, Not a lot of people know that.

What was the last month the factory fitted them before going to the front mount cooler?

No idea, long after they had become standard on cooper s's though.

Yes, the older style vertical cooler ARA167 was still sold in kit 18G8112 for the van, pickup, elf and hornet, long after the horizontal coolers had been introduced. This was because the newer horizontal 10 row standard Mini saloon cooler ARH186 from kit 18G8113 could not be fitted behind the grille [wrong shape grille on elf and hornet, non-removable grille on van and pickup).
The 13 row Cooper S horizontal cooler ARO9809 had a technical bulletin for the change dated 4th May 1966 which referred to 1st June 1966 for the documentation change and lists 1st Jan 1966 as the date for standard equipment fitment of the 13 row cooler on the S. Three dates on one sheet of paper!

Note that Special Tuning listed a C-AJJ3309 kit that also included an oil filter sandwich adapter as the takeoff point, instead of replacing the mini block to filter head external pipe. This had longer hoses and was primarily intended for Sprite/Midget applications, but contained the same 13 row ARO9809 oil cooler so was referenced above as being a suitable source of the cooler for the mini also.
