SMITHS OIL CHECK SYSTEM

Hello all.
I have purchased a Smith oil check unit but I only have the gauge ( if that's the right words for it).
I understand how it works and dont see an issue making up the oil level tube / pipe but does anyone have photos of the engine end installed with the original parts? I know dr Mabo is installing a unit I'm the Broadspeed gt, but not sure if he plans on using an original or making one ( in his sleep, while swinging from a tree I would imagine)
Also what experiences have people had with these? My main reason for wanting one is that my bonnet / front end is a little bit fiddly to open and in bolt.
Cheers in advance.

Smiths oil-check system......... You have got me - and I suspect plenty of the others - totally baffled. Apart from the obvious, what is it?

It tells you how much oil is in the sump. From memory it’s got a little float and boden cable that moves a gauge a bit like the tube and rod tyre pressure gauges.

Fitting instruction here on the forum. It looks like it came with it's own dip stick, that replaces the existing one, with a level switch fitted.

Thank you so far , for your help.
I must correct a couple of statements and advise others that this "gauge" is non electrical and seems to just work on a vacuum. it appears that if the end of the "new" dip stick ( or should i say dip tube) sucks or more accurately feels the resistance of oil, then the "gauge" would indicate green, if there is no resistance due to the tube being ABOVE the oil level , the the "gauge " shows red.
As mentioned in my first post , i dont think it will be too hard to make something up , but just wondered how people have installed them on the A series
