Memory loss again, but do any of you put the extra sponge seal on the inside of the tank neck? I am sure that later 7.5 gallon tanks used them as the strap pulls the tank in, but I'm fairly sure that the normal saloon tank only used the main grommet.

Back in day, way back, I think we used the van / pickup seal on the inside of the neck as extra protection for motorsport, so am wondering if it might be a good idea now?

I tried to fit one on my '65 but I couldn't get the tank to fit properly with it there.

None on the two tanks of my S nor the neck of my RCSport either. To be honest Andy, the boot area of a mini needs a water sopping absorbent sponge like a man needs leprosy

I tried using the sponge doughnuts (I call them cock rings) but the tanks (genuine ones) on my S just wouldn't fit. I found out that if you put some Gum-gum around the neck before you fit the tanks they will squeeze the gunk up against the rubber seals. I also put a very thin bit on the neck seal so that when the tank header pipe goes thru it will seal completely. I now have a very dry boot. The Gum-gum I found on the web. R
