Now - why didn't they keep the additional main bearing in the 4 cylinder design?
Interessitng - I always automatically assumed this engine had 2 main bearings...
Good price for a 1/2 engine

Its our own Simon (251 ENG) who's selling that very rare & interesting little item. Would be best suited to a museum to my mind.

How could it be a Mini prototype engine? I thought Issigonis had only one design requirement to satisfy which was using the A-series engine from the Minor/A35 (even without modifications - which did not happen)? Or is this a 'myth'?

Its covered quite well in Parnell's book which includes a picture of it fully built up with a transverse gearbox. It appears to be the real deal. Its not clear if there was ever more than one built, or even what capacity it was (half a 948 seems to be the consensus). Its fascinating stuff, but realistically, not much more use than a historic curio.

Hello Tim
Which book is that ?
There is a photo of it in Barny Sharrets book about Austin , but can not find my copy at the moment.
They built more than one , the block and head are both unused , but I have another head that has come off another engine.
Spoke to somebody at Gaydon and they said they had one in store .

Whoops, Pressnell, not Parnell, must have been half asleep.
Its on about page 11.
Its tremendously interesting stuff. It makes me wonder whether they managed to squeeze the A30 geartrain under it and if it still had 4 speeds.
