Is it chromed? I got one today and it's original, not a repro, and it's chromed. I thought they were either zinc or cadmium, no?

The only chromed one I ever heard of and saw was from a Mini that was tarted up for show purposes with lots of chromed bits and pieces and had a label on the slam panel stamped 'SCOT SHOW', presumably for Scottish Show. But I could be wrong - as wifey tells me with monotonous regularity....

Never seen a chromed one as a standard fitment on an early mini - they were all a duller plating on the cars I owned.

Hmm. OK, I guess a previous owner chromed his/hers for coolness. Odd though, the cap is chromed, but the little retaining wire has no chrome on it. I would have thought that if it was chromed, both bits would have chrome on them. It's a mystery!
Thanks for your responses.

Perhaps it came from another BMC or other vehicle, not Mini, and was already chromed.

You'd struggle to hold chrome onto that retaining wire.......
