Twin HS2 Elbows - modify singles?

Another job I'm hoping to complete over the Christmas break is getting the carburettors built up. I have a pair of 997 carbs with the correct 997 tags and a 997 manifold. I also have a airbox which I think is from a later Rover Cooper kit though I may be wrong. It's got the slant cut off the corner but it is for HS2's.

What I don't have is a pair of elbows for twin carbs, but I do have a number of single carb elbows knocking around which I'm hopeful I can repurpose.

Am I right in thinking that whilst a single carb elbow will work for one half of the pair, it won't work on the other half due to the air vent being in the wrong place? Can this simply be drilled out to modify or do I need to track down a proper pair for twin carbs? I don't want to fit pancake type filters which I realise is probably the easiest thing to do (and would be correct for that 997 underbonnet look)

Also, are the studs that pull down the airbox replaceable, all of the ones I have are damaged in some way or other, either bent or with thread damage.

Cheers,
Gary

You know that the single studs are longer than the twin ones?

No, wasn't aware of that. This might be helpful in my case - perhaps shortening them will help deal with the damaged ends of pretty much all the ones I've got..

What's the difference in length? I've been looking for replacement studs but to no avail..

Thanks - good to know.

Is my assumption about the modification to the inlet throat correct?

I think it can be done.
