Can anyone suggest what may have caused this discolouring issue at the joint of the windscreen rubber seal filler strip that I fitted recently?

Looks like the foil has parted from the plastic - possibly water has got between them at the cut end.

Just as Graeme says. Water or damp got between the foil and plastic parts of the filler

If it is water that has caused the discolouring it must have been absorbed during the fitting of the strip as the car hasn’t been out the garage since the strip was fitted.

I reckon as the strip has expanded with temp the two ends touching has forced the foil and plastic to separate. I’ve always put a steel finishing cover over the joint and not had them butt up.

Is the silver stuck on the outside of the plastic ?

Shouldn't be, its normally encased in the clear plastic.
There might not be water in there - it could just be that they've separated and there's an air gap now. I must admit I've always butted the filler strip up very tightly as it settles and shrinks over time and you end up with a gap, however I've never had one delaminate like that.

I have seen some stuck on the outside but the stuff I have in a roll here is the stuff like you describe Graeme and never seen that issue before either.

Probably another case of substandard reproduction parts?

Mine did this..., the repro one sold now has a very thin strip of foil in it , and if you fit them tight together on the joint it doesn't shrink like you might expect, and the pressure of the too ends together causes the foil to some how discolour. I don't thing moisture plays any part as mine happened in a dehumidifed garage.
The original has a thick triangle of silver running through it compared to the repro.

I think you're spot on with that Nick, although I left the final cutting of the filler strip for a week or so to allow the ends to retract after fitting but it looks like I didn't cut enough off, this has happened on the front & rear screen seals, so I will remove them & try again, practice makes perfect, I hope.

Sad to say I have the same problem and have only just replaced the front and rear seal filler strips after having the windscreens out.
Sure would like to know if there is a better or new old stock filler strip out there.

As alluded to earlier in the thread this can at least be disguised with the "Windscreen fillet stainless steel finisher joining clip". MiniSpares p/n JPC2017
