Starting to fit the sliding door glass soon, I have been looking for a pair of the original solid type upper sealing strips,
part no. 14A 7167 but struggling to find anyone who supplies them, the only type I have seen are the rubber strip type seals which need to be compressed to form a ‘M’ and pushed into the door channel surround, is this type of seal the only option to use now on repair/restoration projects?

The only type I've seen for years is the rubber strip type seals.

Even the NOS genuine ones I have had and fitted have been this type.

do you mean the verticals fitted to one of the sliding glass pieces?.........think Nick Rogers has them (2nd hand).

I have the draught strips which fit vertically at the overlap of the glass, it’s the seal which fits in the top & sides of the door channel section.

Speak as I find I have fitted the after market type from Mini Spares on 2 occasions now, as I recall i needed to trim the front end slightly to match the lower track and joint correctly but other than that they were fine and have had no problems iin several years useage

I agree with the comments above. The flexible stuff has been around for AT LEAST 25 years. It is easier to fit than the original stuff & once bedded in works better too.

Fitting the old rigid stuff was a nightmare.

Yes. Another vote for the newer flexible stuff. I've had no trouble with it either.

I've ordered a set of the flexible sliding window to door seals, is a mitred joint favoured at the junction of the top & bottom seals?

The top seal will tuck down "in front of" the horizontal runner as long as the horizontal one has been positioned / cut correctly.

I would beg to differ....

The last "proper" upper track I bought came from the "Cooper Car Company" ....which shows how long ago that was. Its still in quite reasonable condition.

The later rubber stuff I bought (for another car) may have been easier to fit (although I don't remember the rigid stuff being much of a pain) but over the years it has shrunk and distorted ... so much so that the front right and rear left panes of glass just don't move.

The rubber shrinks and distorts with age and there aint no cure..... OK I suppose as long as you replace it when you change your socks...

Not my experience. It was in my green 1071 which I had for 20+ years & I never had any issues. It was fitted to my Sprint which is now 13 years old & as far as I am aware it is still working OK.

Apart from the comment above, I have never heard of anyone having any issues with it, apart from someone on here who reckoned it didn't fit, until he knew how to fold it up correctly.

Top and bottom window seals arrived today, top seal fitted ok but the bottom seal appears to be to wide & bulky compared to the original ridged seal I have removed.
Does the bottom door seal need to be compressed considerably sideways by pushing in the window lock rail so it aligns with the top seal?
A photo of a door fitted with the rubber seals would be appreciated if possible.
