So my project to reproduce the rusted tank of my mk1 mini was a total failure. I decided to repair the original one instead.

I would like to ask for the purpose of one piece. In the bottom left of the tank it has kind of a short pipe that fits in a whole of the boot floor. Mine was blocked and just sitting there without being connected to anything

Could anyone pelase tell me the purpose of such piece please ?

Its a drain. It makes the tank hard to remove.

Ok, so the only purpose is to keep the tank in its place?

No. It is a means of draining the tank down. Not fitted in the later years presumably because it made removing the tank and fitting it a bit of a PITFA. If you are going to repair the tank, maybe you could block this drain feature up.

If you post some pictures of the damaged/corroded area, some of us who have experienced corroded or damaged tanks will be able to comment on how they have repaired something similar, for you to copy. Pooled knowledge

Ok, I got it then, so I guess if you wanted to drain the tank without having to take it off the car altogether you could access this plug from bentih the boot or something like that

Thanx a lot

I fitted the drain tube back on to my car.
