Works Entry, 1963 Alpine Rally

Anther film from the BP archive. The first two minutes of this film are shot at Abingdon, a must see for all those with an interest in works cars.

This film features the works car 277 EBL for Rauno Aaltonen, 17 CRX for Denise McCluggage and 18 CRX for Pauline Mayman. Also featured are Terry Hunter in 997 FN, Peter Moon in 24 PK and John Sprinzel in a white Cooper.

Yes lovely, only seen a section of this film before. Spot Tony Fisher’s green 1071 being built.

And to think in 1963 I was delivering Motoring News to a mechanic member of the Ford team at Boreham as a paper boy. He had so many stories and was a good Christmas tipper!

1st win for a Cooper S and I think first rally. Interesting the bolted on plates over the core plugs on the S engine being fitted with the cam shaft. Like most British films of the period, dreadful music on the sound track.
