Starter motor

I am replacing the starter motor on my mk1 ( JWA ) as I noticed a crack in the bendix. This is a 9 tooth bendix, but the spare motors I have are 10 tooth, and some suppliers list 10 T as mini. The 9 T has been working fine and I feel the correct thing to do replace with another 9 T, not be tempted to fit a 10 T and risk damaging the starter ring. What are peoples thoughts please ? Thanks Dave

Not an expert but I've always been told, 9 tooth are for minis. See here

Be careful, because some vendors will happily sell you a 10 tooth starter for a mini. They are wrong.
Me:
I received this GXE4404 order today, but the intertia starter motor provided has a 10 tooth [metro/spitfire] bendix gear fitted, not the 9 tooth gear required for meshing correctly with a mini flywheel.
Somerford:
Thanks for your message. these starters are interchangeable and will engage with all inertia type flywheels. They are not suitable for cars that have pre-engaged type flywheels.
It was a simple enough job to take the bendix off my inertia old starter and fit it to the replacement motor. Bugs me though, they really should know better.
By the way, the bendix and sleeve are available as a separate service part. If your starter motor is still good, just change the end over.
